Workshop Causal Inference Methods

20.01.2017

We are organizing a workshop on the topic of "Causal Inference from Longitudinal Data in Health Systems".

Date: January 30th, 2017 from 15:30 to 20:00
Place: Seminar Room DA green 03 A (green area, third floor), TU Wien, Freihausgebäude, Wiedner Hauptstrasse 8, 1040 Vienna, Austria

The purpose of the workshop is to extend causal inference methods in order to estimate causal relationships from routine data. Real world evidence (RWE) is a widely propagated source to gain information outside the artificial setting of clinical trials. However, these data bear their own difficulties. Concepts, such as "target trial" approach and the use of causal graphs may help conducting studies that allow drawing causal conclusions from observational studies and RWE data. Causal methods need to be applied to estimate a valid causal effect.

Uwe Siebert, Professor of Health Policy and Management (Havard Public School of Health), Professor for Public Health (UMIT), will introduce several concepts and methods of causal analysis and discuss application and difficulties with real world evidence. The workshop will be closed with an internal discussion of the DEXHELPP consortium on the topic, the talks are open to all research groups.

Beverages and snacks will be provided during the breaks.
