Prevalence Estimates for Mental Disorders

Aims

Evaluating the prevalence and incidence of common mental disorders in Austria.

Methods

Currently, no prevalence data for mental disorders in Austria or the federal province Lower Austria exist. However, they would be an important basis for planning of health care volume. This project aims estimating the 12-months-prevalence of mental disorders for adults of an age 18 and above in Lower Austria (i.e., the fraction of ill persons during a calendar year within the total population). Additionally, an estimate of the incidence (e.g., the fraction of persons that got ill in 2007, which means that they have not been ill in 2006). As a data basis, GAP-DRG is used. This is a collection of routine data from the Austrian healthcare system from 2006 and 2007.

The project was conducted by order of Danube University Krems.
